Joanna Serenko (age 18) from St. Louis, Missouri performed Daryl Hall and John Oates‘ “Rich Girl” during the Live Top 17 Performances (Playoffs) on The Voice 2020.
Kelly Clarkson said it was the coolest song selection and that Joanna’s voice is incredible. She added that Joanna has a captivating spirit and that she did a great job.
Coach Blake Shelton said that Joanna did not change the song much, saying the track was basically similar to how Hall and Oates did it. But Blake said Joanna is unique and her voice is so different from anybody else, that it literally became her song. He said Joanna “killed” it.
During the announcement of the Top 17 results, Joanna was one of four artists who competed for the Wild Card. She went against Michael Williams, Mandi Castillo, and Cedrice and emerged as the winner. Joanna is now one of the Top 9 semi-finalists of The Voice 2020.

Joanna Serenko Sings Daryl Hall & John Oates’ “Rich Girl” – The Voice Live Top 17 Performances 2020
“Rich Girl” became Daryl Hall & John Oates’ first (of six) number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. The single originally appeared on the 1976 album Bigger Than Both of Us. At the end of 1977, Billboard ranked it as the 23rd biggest hit of the year.
Season 18 of The Voice premiered at 8PM on February 24, 2020 on NBC and will air Mondays at 8 PM. John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton returned as coaches for their third, fifth and eighteenth seasons, respectively. Nick Jonas joined the panel as a new coach, replacing Gwen Stefani. Meanwhile, Carson Daly returned for his eighteenth season as host.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, production has done some adjustments. For the first time ever, there will be only three weeks of Live Shows: the Playoffs, the Semi-Final, and the Finale. That’s a big drop compared to six weeks of Live Shows in Season 17.
The three weeks of live shows will also air as lives done at each contestant’s and coach’s home.
As to the voting system, the television audience will vote to save their favorite artists and artists who receive the fewest votes will be eligible for the “Instant Save”. America will then save their favorite performer by voting on “The Voice” app (available on iOS and Android) or NBC.com. The artists with the fewest number of votes will be “sent home” or eliminated each week.
