In an attempt to start a new life with his family, bankrupt William Ziel (Garth Breytenbach) returns to the farm he inherited from his estranged father. Lazarus (Tshamano Sebe), the farmhand who took care of William’s father in his final hours, reappears soon after William, Sarah (Inge Beckmann), and adopted daughter Mary (Keita Luna) arrive. A chance meeting between Mary and Lazarus develops into a bond between two kindred spirits. But Lazarus carries a dark secret that weighs so heavily in the sack he carries everywhere he goes: a demon child with an insatiable appetite for human souls … and now the Ziel’s newfound domesticity is placed at unfathomable risk.

The Soul Collector premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival in July 2019, where it was nominated for the Cheval Noir Award for Best Film. The film’s trailer was also nominated for Best Foreign Horror Trailer at the 2019 Golden Trailer Awards.
South African actor Tshamano Sebe (age 59) portrays the farmhand Lazarus. Sebe won the Best Actor Award for his role as Biza in the South African TV comedy series Stokvel at the South African SAFTA Awards in October 2006 in Johannesburg. His film credits include Follow Your Heart, The Death of My Sister, Bush Pilots are not Kissed, The Minesweeper, and Of Good Report.
Shout will release The Soul Collector via VOD on June 12, 2020.
