Killing Eve is a British black comedy drama spy thriller TV series, produced in the United Kingdom by Sid Gentle Films for BBC America and BBC iPlayer.
The series follows Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), a British intelligence investigator tasked with capturing psychopathic assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer). As the chase progresses, the two develop a mutual obsession.
Based on the Villanelle novel series by Luke Jennings, each series or season of the show is led by a different female head writer. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was head writer for the first series, while Emerald Fennell took over for the second series. Suzanne Heathcote is now head writer for series or season three.
The show has been highly successful in both the United States and the United Kingdom, receiving critical acclaim, particularly for its writing and the lead actresses’ performances.
The first series premiered on BBC America on 8 April 2018. It had unbroken weekly ratings increases, among adults especially. It has received several awards, including a Peabody Award and the British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Series. Lead stars Oh and Comer have won multiple Best Actress awards for their roles, with Fiona Shaw winning one for Best Supporting Actress as Carolyn Martens.
In January 2020, Killing Eve had been renewed for both a third and a fourth series. The third season premiered on April 12, 2020 for BBC America, and on April 13, 2020 for BBC iPlayer.
