Jonny West (age 23) from California gives a moving performance of “Faithfully” by Journey during the Homeward Bound round on American Idol 2020 (Season 18).
American Idol judges were pleased with Jonny’s performance. Luke Bryan said that Jonny’s ability to never look like he’s forcing anything within his range is remarkable. He also praised Jonny’s well-placed falsetto movements and his style as well as staying within his style. Luke Bryan concluded by saying Jonny could sing anything.
Lionel Richie said that Jonny has gone on from being the shy guy to that sexy guy, which is called the business. “You’re on your way to something really big,” he said. Lionel commented that Faithfully is one of his favorite songs and Jonny did a great job and “Jonnyrized” it.
Katy Perry connected Jonny’s performance with his relationship with Margie Mays, who was also a contestant on this season’s American Idol. “As I heard it, it sounded like you were singing to a deeper level of love. And it was so beautiful and so magical, I’m like, I wanna go and see your show. Like you got me on the Alejandro level now.”

Jonny West Gives Moving Performance of “Faithfully” By Journey
“Faithfully” is Journey‘s second single from their album Frontiers. It peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has gone on to become one of the band’s most recognizable hits.
American Idol Season 18 premiered at 8PM, February 16, 2020 on ABC television and airs Sundays at 8/7c. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, filming of American Idol was temporarily suspended and contestants were sent home. Production resumed in late April, with all of the contestants performing from their homes.
Ryan Seacrest continues his role as the show’s host and Bobby Bones returns as the in-house mentor. Despite budget cuts, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie come back as judges for their third season of the series.
