Austin (age 44) and Joey (age 37) aka Broken Roots from Chicago, Illinois performed “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi during the Auditions round on America’s Got Talent 2020 (Season 15).
The two musicians have careers in law enforcement. Austin is a homicide detective in Chicagoland while Joey was in law enforcement for some time but recently resigned to open up a music school for kids. They met six months ago in a show and ended up clicking and so they came together to form Broken Roots. The AGT audition is the first time that they performed together.
The duo’s amazing rendition of Bon Jovi’s hit song earned a standing ovation from the audience and impressed the judges. Simon Cowell said the friendship between Austin and Joey and everything they’re doing, is what he believes the show is all about.
Broken Roots got 4 YES votes from AGT judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell, advancing them to the next round of the competition.

“Wanted Dead or Alive” is the third single from American rock band Bon Jovi’s 1986 album Slippery When Wet. The song peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 13 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, making it the third single from the album to reach the Top 10 of the Hot 100. Slippery When Wet was the first hard rock/glam metal album to have 3 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. “Wanted Dead or Alive” is considered to be one of the band’s signature songs, and was certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2015.
America’s Got Talent (AGT) Season 15 premiered in the United States on May 26, 2020, on NBC. For this season, AGT judges are Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, returning Heidi Klum, and newcomer Sofia Vergara.
