Four-chair turners Thunderstorm Artis (age 23) from Hawaii performs Coach John Legend’s “Preach” against Mandi Castillo (age 23) from Texas singing Ben E. King’s “Stand by Me” during The Knockouts round on The Voice 2020 (Season 18)
Nick Jonas said Thunderstorm and Mandi have been two of his favorite artists to watch, but based on their performance on the round, Nick chose Thunderstorm as the winner of the Knockout. Kelly Clarkson said she was excited about Mandi’s because it was a little more competitive while Thunderstorm has the coolest tone. Kelly picked Mandi as the winner of the Knockout. Blake Shelton also gave the win to Mandi because “she really swung for the fence a little bit more” and because she learned more about her singing in that performance.
Coach John Legend said it’s tough because he admires both as vocalists and both are so good. Thunderstorm has “one of the coolest tones” he ever heard and he loved Thunderstorm’s version of his song because it sounded so right for Thunderstorm’s voice. As to Mandi, John describe her performance as “flawless” and that the coolest thing about her voice is the vibrato.
John Legend picked Mandi Castillo as the winner of the knockout because she keeps impressing and surprising him.
