The Masked Singer judges/panelists Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and guest panelist Gordon Ramsay were impressed by his performance. But Astronaut was voted out and had to be unmasked.

The Masked Singer Astronaut was revealed as American country music singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hunter Hayes.

Before Astronaut’s identity was revealed, a set of clues about him were presented in another video.
Hunter Hayes released his self-titled album in 2011, reaching number seven on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top Country Albums. The album sold over 1.1 million copies, with its most successful single, “Wanted”, selling over 3.5 million copies. He has been nominated for five Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and won the CMA Award for New Artist of the Year in 2012, along with three BMI Awards.
Hayes said being Astronaut is “out of this world” and an unbelievable experience. He said this time in his life is a great chance for him to hit a “reset button” and to try things he was scared of, which The Masked Singer is full of. He revealed that he never danced properly before and never worked on choreo. Trying new songs and trying new things with his voice while on the show, has been incredible.
The clues to Hunter’s identity were explained during the show. The Orion constellation is a clue to Hunter’s name because Orion is a Hunter. The bridge refers to Hunter’s hometown of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Astronaut’s mention of getting help from the mob points to “Godfather” star Robert Duvall, who gave Hunter his first guitar.
In his interview after the unmasking, Hunter said he’s proud he made it this far in the show. He joined the show to challenge himself and the masks definitely challenged him. When people appreciated him more for just being himself, he commented, “It doesn’t matter what mask you wear, you still function better as yourself.”
He said he found a new voice and a new stage presence while on The Masked Singer. His experience being anonymous also helped him reconnect “with the parts of what I do that I love.” Hunter said he loves performing and says it’s his heart and soul.
Hunter also commended the people who made his costume and marveled at their artistry and craftmanship.
The country singer summed up his experience in The Masked Singer by saying, “This has been such a beautiful reset for me. And by reset, I mean, this has been such a beautiful place for me to find the voice that I’ve always had but couldn’t connect with until now.”
