American singer and songwriter H.E.R. (age 22) chose the song “Wrong Places” by singer-songwriter and actress Raquel Castro as her Songland Selection.
H.E.R. (real name Gabriella Wilson) and Songland judges/producers Ester Dean, Shane McAnally and Ryan Tedder were bowled over by Raquel’s song and they gave her a standing ovation for her performance.
Ester was impressed with the lyrics while Shane can’t help but get ecstatic over the melody. H.E.R. said Raquel “definitely hit everything on the mark.” She later said it’s an amazing song but needs some little things “that would make the story more clear to everybody.”
Ryan thought the song is insane but said it could do with some chord substitution. Shane also suggested some tweaks on the lyrics and so did Ryan, who observed “love” was being said too much.
