Dead to Me is an American black comedy web TV series about a powerful friendship that blossoms between a hotheaded widow named Jen (Christina Applegate) and an eccentric optimist named Judy (Linda Cardellini).
Jen is a recently widowed real estate agent who tries to come to terms with her loss through therapy, exercise, and other methods. She uses anger and resentment as an outlet for her grief. Judy, on the other hand, is part of a therapy group composed of bereft spouses. While Jen mourns for her husband killed by a hit-and-run driver, Judy grieves for her fiancé, who died of a heart attack.
Tackling their loss differently, Jen and Judy form a deep bond. Unbeknownst to Jen, Judy is the person who hit and killed her husband. Judy’s secret causes a disturbing plot twist and Jen becomes more disturbed as the mystery of her husband’s death and secret life slowly unravels.
Dead to Me is a series created by Liz Feldman, which premiered on May 3, 2019 on Netflix. The series stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini and is executive produced by Feldman, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Jessica Elbaum. In June 2019, Netflix renewed the series for a second season which is set to be released on May 8, 2020. At the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, Applegate received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Season 1 of Dead to Me was widely praised by critics. On review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, Season 1 holds an approval rating of 86% based on 50 reviews. On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 67 out of 100, based on 21 critics.
