This movie follows a 52-year-old mother named Sue (Monica Dolan) and her teenage son named Daniel (Earl Cave). Sue works in a library while Daniel loves eating crisps and listening to Metallica. This was the summer Daniel was due to spend with his father and his father’s new wife in Florida. But when they cancel his trip at the last minute, mother and son suddenly face the prospect of six long weeks together. Over the course of one long summer, an epic war of wills rages in the unassuming battleground of their suburban home as they each reckon with private tragedies – and pursue their personal passions.
Days of the Bagnold Summer is the feature directorial debut of English actor and filmmaker Simon Bird. The screenplay was written by Lisa Owens, adapted from the award-winning graphic novel by Joff Winterhart.

This coming-of-age story capturing all the tension, pathos and affection of family life premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland in August 2019, where it was nominated for Variety Piazza Grande Award. At the British Independent Film Awards 2019, the movie gained another nomination when Lisa Owens was nominated for Best Debut Screenwriter.
Altitude Films in London will release Days of the Bagnold Summer via VOD (in the UK) on June 8, 2020.
