Beth Porch (age 25), a pediatric nurse who loves playing music for kids at the cancer ward in the hospital she works for, performed a beautiful, heart-rending, and inspiring original song titled “You Taught Me What Love Is” during the Auditions round on Britain’s Got Talent 2020 (Season 14).
Porch said the song is about what she has learned from her patients and their families. “I’m not a parent myself but I’ve got a snapshot of what it’s like to love a child and so that’s what inspired this song,” she said.
When Porch performed her song, one can hear a pin drop in the London Palladium. Judges Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden were teary-eyed as well as many in the audience.
Everyone gave Porch a standing ovation for her moving performance.
Alesha said that Porch puts everything into perspective and said she was choked up the whole time. David Walliams said Porch touched all their lives with her song. Amanda described Porch as an angel and that her talent is God-given. Simon Cowell said Porch’s song was absolutely beautiful and that she’s a great singer, songwriter and a great person.
All of the judges gave Beth Porch their “Yes” votes, advancing her to the next round of Britain’s Got Talent.

Alesha Dixon said “I just want to say Thank you so much. Hearing what you do puts everything into perspective. I was just thinking about my own children, I was choked up the whole time. It was so beautiful, I think you’re really, really special.”
David Walliams commented, “We found this ‘so you’ve got two minutes to change your life’ and I think you’ve changed your life but also you know you’ve touched all our lives too, with that song. It was truly staggeringly beautiful and you delivered it perfectly, well done.”
Amanda Holden said, “You have such a difficult job. I don’t know where you find the strength…totally admire you for doing that selflessly every single day. But to also have this kind of talent is God-given. So you literally are an angel in every way and I’m sure loads of parents at that hospital agree.”
Simon Cowell commented, “Beautiful song. Absolutely beautiful song. The lyric is so poignant. You’re a great singer, your’e a great songwriter, you’re a great person so you just tick three boxes. Well done.”

Britain’s Got Talent (aka BGT) is a televised British talent show competition, and part of the global Got Talent franchise created by Simon Cowell. It is hosted by Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (also known as Ant & Dec), and produced by both Thames (formerly Talkback Thames) and Syco Entertainment, distributed by Fremantle, and broadcast on ITV every year. The show premiered on June 9, 2007 following the success of America’s Got Talent the previous year.
Every year, contestants of any age can audition for the contest with whatever talent they wish to demonstrate. Auditionees seek to impress a panel of judges – at present, consisting of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and David Walliams – in order to secure a place in the live rounds of BGT. The winner gets a cash prize and a place within that year’s performances for the Royal Variety Performance before members of the British Royal Family.
On average, Britain’s Got Talent draws 9.9 million viewers per series. A spin-off titled Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions, featuring the same judges and hosts, was later produced and broadcast in 2019, following the success of the American edition’s spin-off America’s Got Talent: The Champions. Britain’s Got Talent is contracted to run until 2024.
Britain’s Got Talent 2020 (Season 14) will air in two parts, the first in April 2020 with pre-recorded audition episodes, while the second containing the live rounds to be aired at a later date. The series was split into two parts because of the Covid-19 pandemic or coronavirus outbreak and the resulting lockdown issued by the British government.
