The 20th slot will have to be decided by American Idol fans. The judges left it for the voters to decide who between Grace Leer and Lauren Mascitti will become part of the Top 20. (American Idol fans voted for Grace Leer for the Top 20.)

American Idol Season 18 premiered at 8PM, February 16, 2020 on ABC television and will air Sundays at 8/7c until the live shows. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, filming of American Idol is temporarily suspended and the production will assess things on a weekly basis. ABC will air new episodes up until April 19, 2020. The network will broadcast This Is Me Part 1 and Part 2 on April 12 and April 19, respectively. The new episodes will show unseen performances of the Top 20 contestants.
Ryan Seacrest continues his role as the show’s host and Bobby Bones returns as the in-house mentor. Despite budget cuts, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie come back as judges for their third season of the series.
