The series follows Esther Shapiro (Shira Haas), who rejects her Hasidic roots to pursue her dream of becoming a classical musician. She leaves behind an arranged marriage and her tightly knit community in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg district and heads to Berlin.
Shira Haas, who plays the lead role of Esther, is a multi-awarded Israeli actress born in Hod HaSharon, Israel to a Jewish family. Her film credits include Princess, A Tale of Love and Darkness, Foxtrot, The Zookeeper’s Wife, Mary Magdalene, Broken Mirrors, Noble Savage, and Esau.
