Joe Exotic, a gun-toting polygamist and country western singer who presides over an Oklahoma roadside zoo stands out among the eccentrics and personalities in the world of big cat owners. Charismatic but misguided, Joe and unbelievable characters including drug kingpins, conmen, and cult leaders all share a passion for big cats. But things take a dark turn when Carole Baskin, an animal activist and owner of a big cat sanctuary, threatens to put them out of business. This eventually leads to Joe’s arrest for a murder-for-hire plot, and reveals a twisted tale where the only thing more dangerous than a big cat is its owner.

Because of the overwhelming response to the docuseries, producers and directors Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin teased in an interview with EW that there could be a possible Tiger King Season 2. Chaiklin said they have a “crazy” amount of footage and the story is still unfolding.
