Joanna Serenko (age 18) and Roderick Chambers (age 38) of Team Nick sang a beautiful cover of “When The Party’s Over” by Billie Eilish during The Battles on The Voice 2020 (Season 18).
“When The Party’s Over” is from the debut studio album of Billie Eilish titled “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” released as its second single on October 17, 2018. It peaked at number 29 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and at number 3 on the US Alternative Digital Song Sales.
The Voice coaches/judges Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Blake Shelton and Nick Jonas were wowed by Joanna and Roderick’s performance and they gave the two contestants a standing ovation, with John Legend shouting “Beautiful! Beautiful!” as he clapped.

Kelly Clarkson said it was her favorite Battle and described it as effortless, beautiful, and passionate. She told Jonas he created a masterpiece and feels sorry that he has to cut half of it off. “This is the kind of performance I want to see on award shows. It was flawless. I cannot pick one.”
Blake Shelton said that Joanna was a four-chair-turn and the pressure is there for her to do it again. He believes Joanna did it again. Shelton said Roderick, who was a one-chair-turner, took advantage of the situation. Blake said he’s a fan of both and said that Joanna and Roderick were more in sync than anybody they’ve heard so far. Because of the shock factor, Blake Shelton picked Roderick as the winner of the Battle.
John Legend praised Nick’s good coaching of Joanna and Roderick. He said the song requires quite a range but also a lot of “grace and presence, and restraint, ” which both of them showed in “spades”. John was stunned that Joanna could hit all the low notes as well as the high notes. He said he didn’t expect so much from Roderick. But he picked Joanna as the winner of the Battle.
Nick Jonas said he saw the growth in Roderick and it was an exhilarating experience for him as the three of them grew together as a team. He was proud of their performance. Nick said Joanna was a flawless singer and it was exciting to hear her voice, and there’s so much to work with as a coach. He said he’s in a very tough situation, trying to decide between Joanna and Roderick.
The Voice is an American singing competition TV series which premiered during the spring television cycle on April 26, 2011 on NBC, and expanded into the fall cycle with the premiere of the third season on September 10, 2012. Based on the original The Voice of Holland, and part of The Voice franchise it has aired seventeen seasons and aims to find currently unsigned singing talent (solo or duets, professional and amateur) contested by aspiring singers, age 13 or over, drawn from public auditions.
Season 18 of The Voice premiered at 8PM on February 24, 2020 on NBC and it will air Mondays at 8 PM. John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton returned as coaches for their third, fifth and eighteenth seasons, respectively. Nick Jonas joined the panel as a new coach, replacing Gwen Stefani. Meanwhile, Carson Daly returned for his eighteenth season as host.
