Jamal Corie and 14-year-old Levi Watkins of Team Blake Shelton fight it out on “Counting Stars” by American pop rock band OneRepublic during The Battles round on The Voice 2020 (Season 18).
“Counting Stars” is third single from OneRepublic’s third studio album, Native (2013). It topped Billboard’s US Adult Top 40, US Adult Contemporary, and US Mainstream Top 40 and got a Diamond certifcation from US RIAA for sales of over 10 million units.
The Voice judges/coaches Blake Shelton, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, and Nick Jonas gave Jamal and Levi a standing ovation for their energetic performance.
Artists: Jamal Corie, Levi Watkins

Coach: Blake Shelton
Battles winner: Levi Watkins
Steal/Save result: N/A
Auditions: Jamal Corrie audition, Levi Watkins audition
John Legend said he liked the higher end of Jamal’s voice and the notes he were hitting but there was “a lot of imprecision”. As to Levi, his low range is pretty stunning and he also hit some high notes. John said he was waiting for Levi to mess up since he was just a kid, but he didn’t mess up. John said he leans toward Levi for the battle.
Nick Jonas said he’s mad that Levi is not on his team, since they are both diabetics and could have been buddies. He regrets that he didn’t turn for Levi during the auditions. To Jamal, Nick said he loves his energy and enthusiasm.
Kelly Clarkson felt that they were shortchanging Jamal saying he was adventurous although it wasn’t executed perfectly. But she’d take passion over perfection everytime and loved Jamal’s energy and thought it was really good.
Blake Shelton wondered if the running around played into Jamal’s pitch issues and getting out of breath. He said he didn’t want to keep on harping on Levi’s age, but “that just adds to the impressiveness of what you do.”
In the end, Blake picked Levi as the winner of the battle. He said, “There’s a lot about what Levi does that I think we still haven’t heard yet, including maybe even him.”
