Host Chris Harrison was right when he said in the previous episodes that The Bachelor 2020 finale with Peter Weber will be one of the most dramatic the show ever had.
Madison Prewett‘s breakup with Peter was shown in the first part of the Season Finale. In Part 2, Peter picks a ring, calls Hannah Ann’s dad to get his blessing, and later on gets engaged with Hannah Ann Sluss. When he announced the engagement to his family, they looked very happy with the news. They told Peter earlier (in Season Finale part 1) that they preferred Hannah Ann over Madison.
A month later, Peter decided to break off the engagement with Hannah Ann. Peter and Madison then were shown to have a sweet reunion, where they admitted they’re still in love with each other after all that’s happened.
Peter and Madison said they haven’t seen each other again until the live finale, but said they still love each other. Peter said they have to take it one day at a time.
Asked about her thoughts, Peter’s mom Barbara explained why they preferred Hannah Ann. She said that while Hannah Ann was ready to show the Webers her love, Madison made them wait three hours and didn’t even apologize. It was a rocky start. Barbara said Madison also admitted then that she wasn’t madly in love with Peter and would not accept his proposal. She said while she knew that Hannah Ann and her “just clicked right away,” they didn’t have that connection with Madison.
Peter’s mom said that the whole family wants what’s best for Peter. But talking about Peter and Madison she said, “Completely two different people. One who is willing to compromise, the other one has not. And to me, you need both to compromise. And only one is compromising. Earlier Peter said, when we were with Hannah Ann as shown in the show, he said, I gave my heart to two people. At that place, one only gave his heart to him, and that was Hannah Ann. So to me, of course my love went to Hannah Ann because anyone that loves your child, or your son, your daughter, you love them dearly.” The audience applauded Barbara’s comment.
At that point, Madison had to give a piece of her mind, too. She said, “I disagree. I think this isn’t just Peter’s journey. You know, when you sign up to come on a show like this, you are looking for love too. This wasn’t just Peter looking for his wife. I totally understand, you know, as a mother, like, you are going to obviously be thinking about Peter. But also this is my journey, too. And this isn’t just Peter choosing me, this is me choosing Peter.” The live audience also cheered Madison’s point of view.
Chris Harrison said that Peter and Madison needs to find space and find their love but pointed out that family is also massively important. He asked, “Barb, how do we turn the page and give this a shot together?”
Barbara said, “Chris, he’s gonna have to fail to succeed. That’s it. All his friends, all his family, everyone that knows him knows that it’s not gonna work. So we’ve been trying to help them. Would we want it to work? Yes.” Most people in the studio reacted by booing Barb at this point.
Peter told everyone, “I am telling you that I love Madison and that should be enough.” ( Cheers and applause from the audience.)
As to Peter’s dad, this is what he has to say: “Honestly, I hate this situation. And it’s telling to me that there are so many obstacles in this way to even get to this point that you don’t even start a relationship like that. Anybody who is watching the show, again, we saw a lot more than the average person here, would understand that there are so many differences to overcome. And you know, when you’re getting into a relationship, that beginning should be the brightest spot. And it was anything but.”
Chris Harrison wished the best for Madison and Peter. With all of Peter’s family going against the future of their relationship, Peter and Madison will need all the luck in the world for their love to survive.
