Peter Weber and his top two bachelorettes, Hannah Ann Sluss and Madison Prewett went to Australia for the Season Finale of The Bachelor 2020 (Season 24).
Hannah Ann and Madison met Peter’s family and they had their last dates. Peter’s family expressed their preference for Hannah Ann. All the events left Peter more confused, but seemed to have led Madison to make an unexpected decision – Madison broke up with Peter.
Madison told Peter, “I think about love and I think about how much I want you and I want this so badly. But I think when you want something so badly I think a lot of times you can’t see clearly. And as much as we want this we don’t know if we can give each other what we need… Sometimes I think being a great warrior and being a good fighter is knowing when to surrender. And I do think that love still wins and I do think love still conquers all because I’m willing to walk away so that you can get what you came here to find.”
Peter asked her, “Why don’t you think that you’re that person?”
Madison cited their incompatibility, saying they expect different things and there’s always going to be a level of misunderstanding.
“I don’t want us to feel like we have to work into overtime to like love each other, you know,” she told Peter. She said the past of couple of days have brought her more into focus about how different they are “when it comes to marriage, when it comes to faith, when it comes to lifestyle.” The 23-year-old foster parent recruiter from Alabama said she does not want Peter to feel that he has to change any of that for someone he wants to be with. “And I wouldn’t want to feel like I have to change any of that for someone I want to be with,” she said.
Peter said he knew the differences but for him it didn’t matter because he knew he was willing to do whatever it took to make that work.
Madison said she wants it so bad but she has to be realistic, “I have to think about like what’s smart, like what’s wise and I think about life outside of this, like compatibility…I don’t know that we’re the best for each other.”
When Peter asked “You really believe that?” With her head bowed down, Madison answered, “Yeah”.
As Madison left in the van, Peter couldn’t help but cry. He wasn’t alone in his grief as Madison was crying too. “I’ll miss him everyday…To walk away from something, loving, it’s like the worst feeling in the world,” she said between tears.
