Deep in the throes of a global pandemic and the mounting chaos in Los Angeles, up-and-coming tv star Ava Boone (Jenna Lyng Adams), is tricked by her boyfriend into returning to their rural hometown despite her reluctance.
Staying with her boyfriend’s family lulls Ava into a false sense of security. She struggles to acclimate to a way of life she left behind long ago, but her homecoming attracts a dangerous figure from her past- threatening both her and the family that serves as her only sanctuary. Ava knows she has no choice but to face it all head-on. No one is safe.
This science fiction thriller is directed by American filmmaker Charlie Buhler, making her feature directorial debut. The screenplay is written by Jenna Lyng Adams, who also stars in the film. Before The Fire originally premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival this year.

Principal photography for “Before the Fire” began in February in South Dakota. The production shot 11 days on two family farms near the small towns of Delmont and Letcher, SD. Each night, cinematographer Drew Bienemann emptied cards while Charlie and Jenna perused the next day’s script, strategizing and rewriting in anticipation of the next day’s shoot.
Jenna Lyng Adams is an actress, producer, and writer, known for The Kominsky Method (2018) and Uncle John (2015). Twice nominated for the SAG awards, Jenna created and is currently penning a TV Pilot for HBO MAX called “So Much” with her writing partner Anna Akana, to be executive produced by Diablo Cody and Jim Parsons.
