Sarah Isen (age 20), a college student from Berkeley, California, sang a cover of “Light On” by Maggie Rogers during the Hollywood Week – Solos round on American Idol 2020 (Season 18).
In contrast with the subpar Hollywood Week duet perfomance with her bestfriend and real-life roomie Sophia Wackerman, Sarah delivered an amazing solo performance.
American Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie were impressed by Sarah’s rendition. Luke said that Sarah has a good voice, a comment that drew nods from Katy and Lionel.

After her performance, Sarah wished she could get feedback from the judges and hoped it was positive. “Being here is such a blessing and I’m getting to do what I love,” she said. She added it would be insane if she and her bestfriend Sophia would go through. “I don’t know. I’m just happy to do this with her,” she said.
“Light On” was released as a single by Maggie Rogers in 2018. The song peaked at number 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart.
American Idol Season 18 premiered at 8PM, February 16, 2020 on ABC television and will air Sundays and Mondays at 8/7c until the live shows. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, filming of American Idol is temporarily suspended and the production will assess things on a weekly basis.
Ryan Seacrest continues his role as the show’s host and Bobby Bones returns as the in-house mentor. Despite budget cuts, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie come back as judges for their third season of the series.
