Joanna Serenko (age 18) from St. Louis, Missouri sang a jazzy version of “All My Loving” by the English rock band The Beatles during the Blind Auditions of The Voice 2020 (Season 18).
“All My Loving” is from the second UK album of The Beatles, released 1963. It was written by Paul McCartney and was released as a single in Canada where it became a number one hit. It peaked at number 45 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in April 1964.
Joanna is the third contestant who’s a four-chair turner for the premiere episode of The Voice 2020. Kelly Clarkson was first to press the button, followed by John Legend and Nick Jonas. Blake Shelton was the last one who turned his chair for Joanna.
Everyone thought John Legend was the obvious choice for Joanna to pick as her coach, owing to her style of singing. Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and Nick Jonas thought Joanna would go to Team Legend.
But when Joanna was making up her mind, Nick Jonas stood up to fight for her. His effort paid off and Joanna chose to be part of Team Nick in the end.

Blake Shelton said, “I don’t know in what season we heard such an effortless, powerful vocal. I’m going ‘There’s no way this girl’s gonna choose me as her coach.’ But at the same time I got to hit that button when somebody is that great. You probably gonna go with John.”
John Legend told Joanna, “We live for those moments when a singer gives us chills. And you gave us that today. To know that you’re 18 years old, it’s very surprisng, actually, because you sound so assured, and you had so much control dancing around the notes. It’ll be fun figuring out the right songs, that you pick the right times to show off your different abilities as a vocalist. That’s what coaches can help you do. And I hope that I can be your coach.”
Nick Jonas said that Joanna will probably pick John. He said, “You really blew me away and it was effortless. I would love to have you on my team. Thanks for letting me hear you sing today. It was amazing.”
Kelly Clarkson said, “I’ve been here for five seasons now and I haven’t heard anyone sing like that. You also have this really artistic, really cool vibe with your tone and it sounds like a record you want to listen to on like a rainy day with a glass of wine…I think you’re really good for this show and I cannot wait to see what you do next.”
Before Joanna was able to say who she picks as her coach, Nick Jonas interrupted her thoughts and said he will fight for her. He said he’s not the logical choice but he won’t just throw in the towel and say it’s John’s. He reiterated that he wants Joanna on his team.
In a moment that surprised everyone, Joanna picked Nick Jonas as her coach for the competition.
The Voice is an American singing competition TV series which debuted during the spring television cycle on April 26, 2011 on NBC, and expanded into the fall cycle with the premiere of the third season on September 10, 2012. Based on the original The Voice of Holland, and part of The Voice franchise it has aired seventeen seasons and aims to find currently unsigned singing talent (solo or duets, professional and amateur) contested by aspiring singers, age 13 or over, drawn from public auditions.
Season 18 of The Voice premiered on February 24, 2020. John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton returned as coaches for their third, fifth and eighteenth seasons, respectively. Nick Jonas joined the panel as a new coach, replacing Gwen Stefani. Meanwhile, Carson Daly returned for his eighteenth season as host.
