Elephant was voted “Out” by the audience and was unmasked. Who is Elephant? The man behind the Elephant Mask is American retired professional skateboarder Tony Hawk.

Season: 3 (2020)
Episode: 4 (February 19, 2020)
Week: 3
Stage name: Elephant
Song: “Friday I’m In Love” by The Cure
Identity: Tony Hawk

Tony Hawk is also an actor, stuntman, and the owner of the skateboard company Birdhouse. Hawk is one of the pioneers of modern vertical skateboarding.
Hawk said that he has all the confidence that he needs when he steps on a skateboard and knows he can perform well. But to be on national TV, on stage for the first time doing all of those things on The Masked singer was “nerve-wracking”. He said he was doing the routine in his hotel room until midnight. He added that his sister was a professional singer and his dad is a good singer so he thought maybe it was in the genes, so he tried it too.
The legendary skateboarder said his only inspiration was Robert Smith, because he is a massive fan of his work. He wanted to sound like him and added some British accent in his performance. He described his experience on The Masked Singer as “very liberating” because one can become anything one wants to be. “It’s not you. It’s the character,” Hawk said.
None of the judges got it right in guessing the Elephant’s identity. Jenny Mccarthy thought he could be Lance Armstrong while Nicole thought he could be Travis Barker or Tommy Lee. Ken Jeong nominated Beto O’Rourke.
Hawk said it would have been great if one of the judges guessed it right because that means he has an iconic sound or movement. But since the judges thought he was a musician like Travis Barker or Dave Grohl, in their earlier guesses, it gives him a lot of confidence.
Prior to the reveal, a video showing the clues to Elephant’s identity was shown.
Hawk said the most obvious clue in the video was birds. His name is Hawk and his company is Birdhouse, so that’s a very obvious connection. The White House reference is when he skated through the White House in 2010. The voguing in the video refers to a skate trick he created in 1984, which he called Madonna. The drum sticks held in an X was in reference to the X Games. He said it was a lot of fun that nobody got him. Although he was eliminated, he was proud of his performance.
