The Green Knight (also known as David Lowery’s The Green Knight) is a fantasy adventure based on the Arthurian legend. It tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s headstrong nephew, who embarks on a quest to confront the Green Knight, a gigantic green-skinned stranger. It is based on the late 14th-century Middle English chivalric romance titled Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (author unknown). The Green Knight 2021
The Green Knight is produced by Toby Halbrooks, Tim Headington, James M. Johnston, David Lowery and Theresa Steele Page. This was originally slated to open in theaters on May 29, 2020 but was pulled from the schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was rescheduled for release on July 30, 2021 in select US theaters, by A24.
English actor Dev Patel (age 31) plays the role of Sir Gawain. Patel’s breakthrough came in 2008 with the leading role of Jamal Malik in Danny Boyle’s drama Slumdog Millionaire, for which he was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor. His film credits include The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and its 2015 sequel, Chappie, The Man Who Knew Infinity, and Lion. For the latter, he won the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also starred in the HBO drama series The Newsroom (2012-2014).
