Station 19 is an American action-drama TV series created by Stacy McKee for ABC that premiered on March 22, 2018. McKee, Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, and Paris Barclay serve as executive producers on the series, which is the second spin-off to Grey’s Anatomy (after Private Practice). Set in Seattle, the series focuses on the lives of the men and women at Seattle Fire Station 19. The series is produced by Shondaland and ABC Studios, with McKee serving as showrunner. McKee stepped down as show runner but the show has been renewed for a third season.
The series stars Jaina Lee Ortiz, Jason George, Grey Damon, Barrett Doss, Alberto Frezza, Jay Hayden, Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre, and Miguel Sandoval. In May 2017, the spin-off received a series order from ABC. Ortiz was cast in July 2017, and the cast was filled out by October. Filming for the series takes place primarily in Los Angeles.
In May 2018, ABC renewed the series for a second season, which premiered on October 4, 2018. In May 2019, the series was renewed for a third season which premiered on January 23, 2020.
Station 19 follows a group of heroic firefighters of the Seattle Fire Department at Station 19 from the captain down the ranks to the newest recruit in their personal and professional lives.
American actress and dancer Jaina Lee Ortiz, (age 33) portrays Andrea “Andy” Herrera, a Lieutenant at Station 19 and the daughter of Captain Pruitt Herrera. She was a Co-Acting Captain of Station 19 and her love interest is the new captain, Robert Sullivan.
Ortiz is known for her starring role as Detective Annalise Villa on the Fox police drama Rosewood from 2015 to 2017 prior to landing the lead role in Station 19. Ortiz got her break in showbusiness when she auditioned and was cast on the second season of VH1’s reality show Scream Queens, and was named first runner-up. In 2013, she landed the role as a series regular in The After, and later cast as the female lead in the short-lived series titled Rosewood, playing opposite Morris Chestnut. Ortiz also appeared in the series Shooter and in the comedy film Girls Trip (2017), playing herself.
