Grown-ish (stylized as grown·ish) is an American sitcom series and a spin-off of the ABC series Black-ish. The comedy series follows the Johnsons’ eldest daughter Zoey (Yara Shahidi) as she goes to college, begins her journey to adulthood but quickly discovers that not everything goes her way once she leaves the nest.
Created by Black-ish’s Kenya Barris, the series is produced by Khalabo Ink Society, Wilmore Films, Cinema Gypsy Productions and Principato-Young Entertainment, with Anthony Anderson, Brian Dobbins, and Helen Sugland acting as executive producers. Freeform officially ordered 13 episodes of the spin-off in May 2017, and it premiered on January 3, 2018. On January 18, 2018, Freeform renewed the series for a second season of 21 episodes. It premiered on January 2, 2019.
On February 5, 2019, Freeform renewed the series for a third season. On November 7, 2019, it was announced that the third season will premiere on January 16, 2020. In January 2020, the series was renewed for a fourth season.
American actress, model, and activist Yara Shahidi (age 19) leads the cast of Grown-ish. Shahidi gained recognition for her starring role as the oldest daughter Zoey Johnson on the sitcom Black-ish (2014–present) and now its spin-off series Grown-ish (2018–present). She has also starred in films including Imagine That (2009), Smallfoot (2018), and The Sun Is Also a Star (2019).
Trevor Jackson (age 23) plays the role of Aaron Jackson, a “woke” Cal U student involved in various causes dealing with African Americans. Trevor is an American actor, singer, and songwriter best known for portraying Kevin Blake on Eureka, Kris McDuffy on Let It Shine, and Kevin LaCroix on American Crime, aside from his Aaron Jackson character on Grown-ish. He played the Young Simba on the Broadway musical The Lion King and in 2012, he won the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Series. In 2018, he starred as the lead of the crime drama film Superfly as Priest.
