Singer-songwriter Hannah Prestridge (age 24) from Rockdale, Texas, came in with her husband Curt Jones to audition as a duo called Treble Soul. But American Idol judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, opted to have them audition separately.
Curt and Hannah said they met in Nashville and said they’ve been playing together for 6 years and have been married for three years.
Katy asked Curt to sing first, and he sang a cover of “Help Me Hold On” by Travis Tritt.
Meanwhile, Hannah sang an original song titled “Day to Day”, which she said is about her relationship with Curt. She said they had a rough 6 years as a couple, and the song is more of the bad times.
All of the judges praised Hannah for her beautiful, plaintive voice and voted Yes to sending her to Hollywood with the Golden Ticket. As to Curt, they praised him for being a good husband and for being a good man, but did not think he was at par with the others who are bound for Hollywood. They deemed it would be better if he was there to support Hannah in her journey on American Idol.

Hannah said she met Curt in Nashville to chase a dream but she ended up chasing a boy, who she automatically knew she loved without knowing the reason why. After 3 months, Hannah became pregnant but was in so much pain. When she went to the doctor, she got a shot of a pain killer, to which she later became addicted to.
She was spiraling out of control, and Curt watched as Hannah “kind of fade away into this ghost” which he never really knew. Curt gave him an ultimatum to fix her stuff, or he’s going, with the girls. Hannah chose Curt and the girls and had been sober for a year. Curt is extremely happy to have a second chance to make his family right.
Hannah said of Curt, “I love Curt with my entire soul. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here today.”
Judges Comments
Katy Perry said, “Hannah, there’s something special in your voice. There’s a pain that you can feel and people resonate with it. And congratulations for being clear. If you want to be on this journey, you’ve got to be clear.” To Curt, Katy Perry said, “I think you’ve got a real authentic country voice. I’m not sure that you are blowing out the water some of the contestants we’ve seen earlier.”
Luke commented, “You know Curt, I think you complement her. But I think right now, your role may just be kind of her rock. Hannah you’ve got that story and that pain in there that we’re feeling but now you can feel that Ohhh, this train’s getting rollin’. I think you might surprise us and yourself.”
Lionel said, “Looking at you as a team, I always like to think, who’s the leader and who’s the complement. As far as I’m concerned Hannah, the lead is sitting with you. Your rock is standing next to you and the guy you look over every night and wink at him doing the show because he’d be playing right beside you. There’s the act right there.”
When Katy asked if they both had to go through or what, Curt said no. He said he’d support Hannah no matter what.
Lionel said “No” to Curt but said he was a good man. Katy agreed and told Curt, “There’s got to be a flower and there’s got to be a gardener. Right now, you’ve got to be the gardener. It’s a No for me for right now.”
Luke said “Yes” to Curt for being a great man.
All the judges stood up to tell Hannah she’s going to Hollywood.
Hannah later said, “I can’t believe I did it. It means everything that I’ve ever worked for in my life. All the hardships I’ve faced, all the downfalls I’ve taken.”
When Katy and Hannah hugged each other, Hannah told Katy that she wanted this since she was six years old. Katy told her “You got it…Just stay focused. Stay clear.”
Curt hugged Hannah and said he’s proud of her and that “Everything happens for a reason.” He said, “She deserves every bit of this, more than anybody I’ve ever met in my life. So I’m looking forward to watching the journey.”
American Idol Season 18 premiered at 8PM, February 16, 2020 on ABC television and will air Sundays at 8/7c. Ryan Seacrest continues his role as the show’s host and Bobby Bones returns as the in-house mentor. Despite budget cuts, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie come back as judges for their third season of the series.
