Season Five of “Outlander” will find the Frasers fighting for their family and the home they have forged on Fraser’s Ridge. Jamie (Sam Heughan) must find a way to defend all that he has created in America, and to protect those who look to him for leadership and protection – while hiding his personal relationship with Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix), the man whom Governor William Tryon has ordered him to hunt down and kill.
With her family together at last, Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) must use her modern medical knowledge and foresight to prevent them from being ripped apart once again. However, while focusing on protecting others, she risks losing sight of what it means to protect herself.
The fifth season of Outlander will play out over 12 episodes and is based on material from Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling Outlander series, which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.

Outlander is a drama TV series based upon author Diana Gabaldon’s historical time travel book series of the same name. The show premiered on August 9, 2014. It stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall, a married former World War II nurse who in 1946 finds herself transported back to Scotland in 1743. There she encounters the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and becomes embroiled in the Jacobite risings.
The second season of 13 episodes was based on Dragonfly in Amber and premiered on April 9, 2016. On June 1, Starz renewed the series for a third and fourth season, which adapted the third and fourth Outlander novels, “Voyager” and “Drums of Autumn”, respectively. The 13-episode third season premiered on September 10, 2017. The 13-episode fourth season premiered on November 4, 2018. Starz has renewed the series for fifth and sixth seasons, with the fifth set to premiere on February 16, 2020.
Irish actress and former model Caitríona Balfe (age 40) is best known for her role as Claire Fraser in the Outlander series. She has won two People’s Choice Awards, two Saturn Awards, and an Irish Film and Television Award, and received four Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress in a TV Series – Drama for the said role. Prior to becoming an actress, Balfe was featured both in advertising campaigns and on runways for brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Max Mara, Bottega Veneta and Oscar de la Renta over the course of 10 years. She starred in numerous films, including Super 8, Now You See Me, Escape Plan, Money Monster, and Ford v. Ferrari, and had leading roles in The Beauty Inside, Crush and H+: The Digital Series.
Sam Heughan (age 39) is a Scottish actor who is best known for his role as Jamie Fraser in Outlander, for which he has received a Saturn Award for Best Actor on Television out of five nominations, and a nomination for the Critics Choice Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series. Prior to Outlander, Heughan was already an acclaimed actor, having been nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Most Promising Performer in 2003, for his performance in the play Outlying Islands, performed at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs. In 2004, Heughan appeared in his first professional TV role in the miniseries Island at War, a WWII drama about the German occupation of the Channel Islands. In 2018, he co-starred as MI-6 agent Sebastian in The Spy Who Dumped Me, opposite Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, which he filmed during an Outlander hiatus. In November 2018, Heughan was cast as Tom Buckingham, the lead role in SAS: Red Notice, a film based on the novel of the same name by Andy McNab.
