In January 2019, it was announced that Carey Mulligan had joined the cast of Emerald Fennell’s film. In March 2019, Bo Burnham, Alison Brie, Connie Britton, Adam Brody, Jennifer Coolidge, Laverne Cox, Max Greenfield, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Sam Richardson and Molly Shannon joined the cast of the film. A month after, Angela Zhou and Clancy Brown also became part of the cast.
Lead star Carey Hannah Mulligan (age 34) is a British actress whose film debut was in the role of Kitty Bennet in Pride & Prejudice (2005). This was followed by supporting roles in TV, including Bleak House (2005) and a Doctor Who episode, “Blink” (2007). She made her Broadway debut in “The Seagull” in 2008, which garnered her an Ian Charleson Commendation Award.
Mulligan’s breakthrough performance was as Jenny Mellor in the drama movie “An Education” (2009), for which she won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, and earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
She got a BIFA Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a British Independent Film for her leading role in the dystopian romantic-drama “Never Let Me Go” (2010). She was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performances in the action film Drive (2011) and the drama Shame (2011).
In 2015, Carey Mulligan was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play for her performance in David Hare’s Skylight alongside Bill Nighy.
In 2018, Mulligan starred in the crime miniseries “Collateral” and in the film “Wildlife”.
Meanwhile the writer and director of the film, Emerald Fennell (age 34), is an English actress, author and screenwriter who is best known for showrunning the second season of the BBC America thriller series “Killing Eve”. She also had a notable role as Nurse Patsy Mount in the BBC drama series “Call the Midwife”.
Promising Young Woman will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020.
