In the semi-finals of Dancing with the Stars (Season 28), the remaining five dance couples performed a redemption dance and one unlearned dance for the judges.
Country music singer Lauren Alaina and her professional partner Gleb Savchenko (aka Lauren and Gleb), danced the Paso Doble and Viennese Waltz while Fifth Harmony singer Ally Brooke and partner Sasha Farber (aka Ally and Sasha) performed the Viennese Waltz and Charleston.
The Bachelorette star Hannah Brown and partner Alan Bersten showcased their Rumba and Contemporary dance routines while actor and comedian Kel Mitchell and partner Witney Carson performed the Tango and a Contemporary dance. Dawson’s Creek actor James Van Der Beek and partner Emma Slater danced the Cha-Cha and Foxtrot for the semi-finals.
Ally and Sasha got the highest scores for the night, with a combined total of 59 for the two dances. In contrast, James and Emma got the lowest score, with a total of 51 for their semi-finals dance routines.
Despite getting the highest score for the night, Ally and Sasha landed in the bottom two, along with James and Emma.
Dancing with the Stars judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli voted to save Ally and Sasha. Judge Len Goodman did not vote but said he would have voted to save Ally and Sasha, who would now be part of the final four couples competing in the finals next week. James and Emma were eliminated from the competition.
An emotional Ally pleaded with host Tom Bergeron if she could give the slot to James Van Der Beek. But Tom said, “No, that’s lovely of you to say that.” Ally cried like a small child as she repeated her plea to give James her slot, while James hugged his partner Emma as he said goodbye.
For the finals next week, finalists Lauren and Gleb, Ally and Sasha, Hannah and Alan, and Kel and Witney will showcase their Freestyle routines.
