Melinda Rodriguez (age 23) and Shane Q (age 28) of Team Kelly performed Sam Smith’s “Too Good at Goodbyes” on The Voice Battles 2019 (Season 17).
Blake Shelton said both Melinda and Shane Q are incredible vocalists. He noted that Shane Q is gifted with a great scream while Melinda was full of confidence, has a beautiful voice and great tone. Though no one really pulled way ahead of the other, Blake said he would probably pick Shane.
John Legend agreed that both are great singers and both have major chops. He said “just by a hair” he would pick Shane.
Gwen Stefani said she was attracted to the confidence and joyful presence of Melinda. As to Shane, she said his voice was “shocking”, smooth, and like a “phenomenon, almost”.
Coach Kelly Clarkson said that Melinda and Shane are both incredibly gifted. To Melinda, she said, “precision is your thing” and that she executes everything flawlessly. As to Shane, she said she didn’t expect that he just kept on going and kept doing ridiculous stuff.
Kelly picked Shane Q as the winner of the battle.
Melinda was asked by host Carson Daly what she’d like to say to Kelly. But before she even finished her sentence, Kelly pressed her button for the Save, while John Legend pressed the button for the Steal.
After Kelly and John’s pitch to Melinda, she chose to stay with Team Kelly.
