Marybeth Byrd (age 18) and twins Dane & Stephanie (age 21) of Team John Legend sang a stunning version of “Burning House” by American country music singer Cam, on The Voice Battles 2019 (Season 17).
All of The Voice coaches, namely Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and John Legend and the audience gave them a standing ovation.
Gwen Stefani said the performance was so good and so beautiful. She said the two acts are magical together and their voices are perfectly matched. On the other hand, Gwen said Marybeth’s style of singing has so much character. It’s smooth, pretty, dynamic. Gwen decided not to pick the winner of the battle.
Kelly Clarkson said she almost bawled over the magical performance of Dane, Stephanie and Marybeth. She singled out Dane for holding down the low harmony, which she said is difficult. She said it was tasteful and wasn’t too much. She said Marybeth is just as talented because she knows when to go “big”, and it was well-executed. Kelly picked Dane and Stephanie as the winner of the battle.
Blake Shelton said the twins showed unbelievable improvement in a short amount of time. But he said he is putting his bet on Marybeth to be in the finale. “She has everything it takes to win this show,” Blake said.
Coach John Legend said Marybeth, Dane and Stephanie, made everybody feel all the emotions and that very few artists got standing ovations from all the coaches. He observed that Dane & Stephanie’s confidence grew and the execution was better. Marybeth, he said, has such maturity and control for someone who’s 18 and that she’s a gifted vocalist.
John picked Marybeth Byrd as the winner of the battle, and Dane & Stephanie got eliminated from the competition.
