Katie Kadan (age 38) and Max Boyle (age 23) of Team John Legend gave amazing performances during the The Voice Knockouts 2019 (Season 17).
Katie sang a feisty version of “Piece of My Heart” by Emma Franklin and got a standing ovation from all of the judges. Max Boyle gave an emotional rendition of “When the Party’s Over” by Billie Eilish and also got a standing ovation from Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani and John Legend.
The Voice coaches were split as to who won the Knockouts.
Gwen Stefani said that there’s undeniable star quality of Katie Kadan but Max was gorgeous and his emotional rendition brought everyone in. Coach Gwen concluded “it’s very equal in so many ways.”
Kelly Clarkson said that Katie’s presence is magical and so awesome. She said it was a perfect song for her because everyone paid attention and that even all the coaches wouldn’t want to sing after Katie. But Kelly picked Max as the winner of the knockouts because, “I expected Katie to be Wonder Woman, I didn’t expect you to be Superman.”
Blake Shelton said he is literally shocked because everytime Katie comes out, “they have to repair the roof.” He said Katie’s song is basically chewing somebody out and the way she sang it was like she was getting more angry. Blake picked Katie as the winner of the Knockouts.
John said both Katie and Max chose good songs and executed them masterfully. He said Max told the story of the song so perfectly and surprised everyone, while Katie gives out fireworks everytime she comes out, has so much potential, and is a superstar.
The winner of this particular knockout round remains unannounced, but according to some forums, John Legend chose Katie Kadan and Max Boyle was stolen by Kelly Clarkson. We’ll update this post as soon as results are confirmed.
