Destiny Rayne (age 23) and Katie Kadan (age 38) of Team John Legend, performed “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John on The Voice Battles 2019 (Season 17).
The Voice coaches Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, John Legend, and Blake Shelton gave Destiny and Katie a standing ovation for their incredible performance.
Gwen said that Destiny stood on her own despite the strong presence and character, and Katie’s unbelievable tone which is so full of life and personality. She said the duet was beautiful and gorgeous but she can’t get over Katie’s voice which she described as “craziness”.
Kelly observed that Destiny and Katie adapted to each other. She said she love Katie and noticed that she showed a bit of restraint, which shows what kind of artist she is. She said Destiny killed it and hopes both artists make it.
Blake Shelton described Katie’s voice as an “eruption” which can’t be not celebrated. But Destiny rising to the occasion made it a great duet.
Coach John Legend said it was thrilling to watch the performance. When asked by Carson Daly to make a choice, John picked Katie as the winner of the battle. He said Katie’s voice sounds like magic and is so rich and powerful. She “belong making records” and that people need to see and hear her. “She’s just a superstar,” he said.
When Destiny was about to go off the stage, Blake Shelton and then Gwen Stefani pressed their button for a steal. The real-life sweethearts pitched themselves and “fought” over Destiny. In the end, Destiny chose to be with Team Gwen.
