Caroline Reilly (age 16) and Jake HaldenVang (age 24) of Team Gwen sang an impressive version of “Just Like a Pill” by Pink.
Kelly Clarkson said it is a hard song to cover and both artists did it well. She said her favorite part was when Caroline’s voice broke and it just was all passion, and it was magical. Then Kelly said there’s no one like Jake on the show nor on the radio because “rock is like, dead”. She said Jake’s voice is like American singer Steven Tyler and that she was impressed by his delivery. So she picked Jake as the winner of the battle.
Blake Shelton said he doesn’t “want to sell Caroline short on this one because she’s 16 years old.” He said the song was a mouthful for anybody so he said he’s casting his vote for Caroline.
John Legend said Caroline had so much confidence and so much power in her voice. He said he likes that Jake does things that are unexpected all the time. He said rock guys don’t do a lot of runs, but Jake did some cool runs. John picked Jake as the winner of the battle.
Coach Gwen said Jake had so much confidence and experience. She said, “today was like the tip of the iceberg of how talented Jake is. To Caroline, Gwen said, “you’re my dream”. She said she wanted to work with a young girl and share her experiences. Caroline is such an incredible singer that Gwen asks herself, “What can I do to help?”
In the end, Gwen picked Jake as the winner of the battle, and Caroline Reilly was eliminated from the competition.
