After eight weeks of marriage, the couples of Married at First Sight were asked to make their decision on whether they want to stay married or not.
The shocker of the episode was when Keith Manley (age 27) decided to divorce Iris Caldwell (age 27).
Iris Caldwell, who remained a virgin throughout her 8-week marriage with Keith, wanted to stay married. But when it was Keith’s turn to speak, he said: “Going into this I didn’t know who I was gonna be married to. And I’ve had a lot of concerns. I do think that we are in different places, individually. And for that reason, I would like to get a divorce.”
The panel of experts composed of psychotherapist Dr. Viviana Coles, sociologist Dr. Pepper Schwartz, and marriage counselor Pastor Calvin Roberson all looked saddened by Keith’s decision.
And though Keith told Iris he thinks she’s an amazing person and he just thinks she’s not the right one for him, Iris couldn’t help but cry. But she said she’s at peace with it because it’s something she can’t change.
Pastor Calvin Roberson assured Iris that she is a viable wife and that she is worthy, when she seemed to display doubts about herself.
As for the rest of the couples, Elizabeth Bice (age 29) and Jamie Thompson (age 35) decided to stay married, and so did Deonna McNeill (age 30) and Gregory Okotie (age 32).
Amber Bowles (age 27) and Matthew Gwynne (age 31) decided to divorce as Amber revealed Matthew’s infidelity. Amber said that Matthew had been pursuing more than one woman outside of their marriage. When Amber said she wants a divorce, Matthew said it’s their best option considering everything they’ve been through.
