Singer Kodi Lee (age 22), one of AGT’s Golden Buzzer acts, sang an emotional, breathtaking cover of Calum Scott’s “You Are The Reason” at the semifinals round of America’s Got Talent 2019 (Season 14).
Kodi Lee, who’s a blind and autistic singer from Lake Elsinore, California, wowed the audience and AGT judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Julianne Hough, Gabrielle Union and guest judge Sean Hayes, with his amazing performance. The live audience at Dolby Theatre lit up their phones and waved their arms throughout Kodi Lee’s captivating rendition of Scott’s song.
After his performance, Kodi Lee got a well-deserved standing ovation from everyone.
Gabrielle Union, who pressed the Golden Buzzer for Kodi Lee during his audition [See: AGT 2019 Kodi Lee Audition] , said that Kodi just keeps on “changing the world” every time he steps on the stage. “Every breath you take, every note you hit, you make the world a thousand per cent better. We are all so grateful to be in your orbit,” she said.
Simon Cowell commented that the song takes him back to Kodi Lee’s first audition because it was the music that came in when Gabrielle pressed the Golden Buzzer for Kodi. He added, “Your story is unbelievable. But now let’s take you back to your talent. Every time you come on, in particular tonight, you put your twist, your take on a song that makes you in my opinion probably one of the most special, talented contestants we have.”
Simon said that his “breath was taken away”. He noted how guest judge Sean Hayes was affected by Kodi Lee’s performance.
Sean admitted he had tears in his eyes and said, “I can’t believe I’m so lucky to witness this close and to be part of it.”
