The vocal group Voices of Service, composed of military members, performed ‘Footprints in the Sand’ on America’s Got Talent 2019 (Season 14) finals.
‘Footprints in the Sand’ is a song recorded by British singer Leona Lewis for her debut studio album Spirit (2007).
Voices of Service, the vocal group who act as a light in the darkness for many soldiers suffering with PTSD, got a standing ovation for their emotional performance.
Howie Mandel told Voices of Service, “You are changing lives.” He said that the video showed that the vocal group had moved a lot of people. “It is so important, so wonderful and so powerful.”
Gabrielle Union commented that the group’s performance was perfection. She recalled that when Voices of Service was named as one of the finalists, in their moment of success, a member took a moment to hug Luke Islam who was eliminated from the competition. “That’s what you guys do, you recognize those heroes that walk among us whose voices have been silenced, who need the resources and the attention…You are instruments of feeling and you are beyond this stage. And brilliant, absolutely brilliant.”
Julianne Hough’s comment was notable, as her voice choked with emotions and she was on the verge of tears at some point. She said:
One of the biggest questions I think people ask themselves is – What is life about, right? And we have an opportunity as artists who perform whether it’s through music, entertainment, film, acting, whatever it is to bring people joy and hope. And that is what you guys do. So, thank you for using your talent as an outlet for people to feel seen.
Simon Cowell said Voices had two incredible weeks, last week and this week. “You define the words, sincerity, decency and talent. And you know what, I wouldn’t have said this three weeks ago, you’ve just given yourself a chance of winning this whole competition.”
