Singer and songwriter Chris Kläfford (age 30) from Lindesberg, Sweden sang his original song “If Not With You, For You” at the semifinals of America’s Got Talent 2019 (Season 14).
Klafford’s song got mixed reactions from AGT judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Julianne Hough, Gabrielle Union and guest judge Queen Latifah.
Howie Mandel and Simon Cowell weren’t that much impressed with Chris Klafford’s newest original song, while Julianne, Gabriel and Queen Latifah all agreed that it is an amazing song.

Howie Mandel said he loves Chris and thinks his voice is amazing, but said he doesn’t know if he loves Chris Klafford’s strategy:
That song didn’t connect to me…If you go online and you look at what we did digitally, your first song was the John Lennon song, that went through the roof. Your other songs aren’t going through the roof. People are gonna vote. They can only vote for 5 people. I don’t think you’re gonna get the vote for that song.
Julianne Hough absolutely disagreed with Mandel’s take. She said Klafford has something super special. “Your writing is authentic and true. And one thing I always gauge is if I can close my eyes and it moves me and I wanna dance and I love the 3/4 time, it like swung. It was amazing, I loved it.”
Gabrielle Union said she’s like Julianne, “Everytime you open your mouth, I get goosebumps. I love all of your originals. Like I’m the one who’s like, “ahhh yes, more originals please.” So I disagree …I think America might agree with me and then will turn out and vote for him.”
Queen Latifah commented:
See me, I’m already at the concert and I hear a whole audience like this singing that hit. So in my brain, I’m hearing the record already produced. It’s an original, it’s already difficult to sing an original song. Of course you could get off with a John Lennon song. But it takes guts to come out here and do what you just did.
Simon asked if Chris Klafford has performed ‘If Not With You, For You’ in AGT before, and Chris replied he has not. Simon continued, “Coz the song you sang in the middle rounds to me, was your killer song. And I think you should have sung that tonight.”
