Charlotte Summers, the 13-year-old singer from Marbella, Spain, sang an impressive cover of “Diamonds Are Forever” during the quarterfinals round of America’s Got Talent 2019 (Season 14).
“Diamonds Are Forever” is a song originally recorded by Shirley Bassey and is the soundtrack for the seventh James Bond film of the same name.
Judges Julianne Hough and Gabrielle Union gave Charlotte a standing ovation and so did most of the live audience. Howie Mandel said that Charlotte’s talent is beyond her years while Julianne Hough said she had a vibrant, full voice like Jessie J.
But Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel and Julianne Hough all agreed that it was a wrong song choice for Charlotte Summers. Julianne said Charlotte’s personality is so dynamic and it didn’t show during the performance.
Simon Cowell echoed Julianne Hough’s comment, saying Summers had one of the best personalities in the competition. He said it was a terrible song choice and hopes that the audience dismisses the song choice because it’s not her fault, and just remember “what a great person you are, what a great singer you are.” He added the American audience is very forgiving. “We’re not gonna judge you on the song,” Simon said.
Charlotte cried in reaction to their comments but thanked America for the support.
