Natalie Portman will play the role of Mighty Thor in Thor 4, which is titled “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
The announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con, where Natalie Portman stepped onstage and was handed Thor’s hammer by the film’s director, Taika Waititi.
Some people refer to Portman’s role as Female Thor, Lady Thor or Woman Thor but director Waititi corrected someone on twitter and said that Portman’s role is actually called Mighty Thor.
A lot of people were surprised with the news that Natalie Portman is back at the MCU.
Her role as Jane Foster, Thor’s love interest, was last seen in 2013’s “Thor: The Dark World.” In 2017’s “Thor: Ragnarok”, Jane’s name was only mentioned in passing, to convey the message that Thor and Jane broke up.
So who is Mighty Thor?
In a 2014 storyline by comic book writer Jason Aaron, Foster was revealed to be worthy to wield the Mjolnir (Thor’s hammer), when Thor was no longer able to do so. She takes the name, “Thor, the Goddess of Thunder” and even joins the Avengers.
It’s still not known whether “Thor: Love and Thunder” will follow the storyline found in the comic books, since the plot for the newest Thor movie is still under wraps.
Director Waititi posted on Instagram, a sketch of how Mighty Thor might look like. Fans reacted by saying they can’t wait for the movie to come out.
Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled for release on November 5, 2021. Aside from Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will also star in the film.
