Songwriter Jack Newsome sang his original song “Lying (Next to You)” during his pitch to American singer and songwriter Kelsea Ballerini and producers Ester Dean, Ryan Tedder, and Shane Mcanally on Songland 2019 (Season 1).
Kelsea Ballerini reacted to the song by saying she likes the vibe and likes it all. The producers suggested some changes in the melody to make the song better.
Jack Newsome changed the song based on the comments and suggestions of Kelsea and the producers. He performed the final version with Shane Mcanally as producer.
