The 27-year-old user-experience librarian from Philadelphia made a lot of buzz on Monday, June 3, 2019, when she defeated James Holzhauer, the third-highest overall winning Jeopardy! contestant behind Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings.
Emma won 2 more games after defeating James Holzhauer, and took home a total of USD 98,002 from her 4 appearances on ‘Jeopardy!’.
Her winnings pale in comparison to James Holzhauer’s, who won USD 2,464,216 in 33 appearances. But Emma Boettcher will forever be remembered as the contestant who stopped Jeopardy James from breaking Ken Jennings record of USD 2,522,700 winnings in 75 episodes.

Emma Boettcher reportedly plans to pay off some loans with her winnings and donate to her church, according to The Daily Princetonian. She is also thinking of donating to the schools where she earned her master’s degree, namely Princeton and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Meanwhile, Brendan Roach, the man who defeated Emma Boettcher, won his second Jeopardy! game on Friday, June 7, 2019. His 2-day winnings now total USD 58,700.
