Based on the 2013 horror novel of the same name by Stephen King, this film is a direct sequel to the 1980 horror film ‘The Shining’ by Stanley Kubrick.
‘Doctor Sleep’ follows the story of an adult Danny Torrance (who was a child in the 1977 horror novel ‘The Shining’) with psychic powers he calls “the shining” and dealing with alcoholism like his father did. He comes across a cult called True Knot that feeds on the “steam” of children who have the same psychic powers.
The film is written, edited and directed by Mike Flanagan, who said that the film also exists in the same cinematic universe as Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’.
