‘Smithereens’ is the second episode of Season 5 of the anthology series ‘Black Mirror’. It was written by Charlie Brooker and directed by James Hawes.
The episode follows the story a rideshare driver named Chris Gillhaney (Andrew Scott), who takes an employee (Damson Idris) of Smithereen, a large social media company, hostage. The day rapidly spirals out of control as the police close in on Chris.
‘Smithereens’ is largely a parable on the overactive usage of social media sites, and how they distract society from the real world.
