Laine Hardy (age 18) of Louisiana sang “Johnny B. Goode” as a Showstopper performance on American Idol 2019 (Season 17).
“Johnny B. Goode” is a rock-and-roll song written and first recorded by American singer and songwriter Chuck Berry, one of the pioneers of rock and roll music. The song peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Sides chart and number 8 on its Hot 100 chart.
Looking dapper in his royal blue blazer, Laine Hardy performed like a seasoned rock star and everyone in the live audience, including judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, partied with the Hardy.
The American Idol judges were impressed with his rocking rendition and Katy Perry acted like a fangirl through and through.
Laine Hardy was voted to the Top 4 along with Alejandro Aranda, Wade Cota and Madison VanDenburg. Together with Laci Kaye Booth, who was saved by the judges from elimination, the remaining 5 contestants will perform on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 8:00 PM (ET) on ABC, while the Finale will be held a week after.

Judges Comments:
Lionel Richie
Wait a minute! I have one question to ask. You been on my closet? Let me tell you something. That was to the point of fainting. That was the perfect song, the perfect attitude. I’m in love with what you’re doing.
Katy Perry
I’m scared. I’m scared, it was so good. Who knew you had that in your lower body? (Screams.)
Luke Bryan
Katy, Laine has left the building. He’s going to the limo (Katy shouts ‘Sweating’ while holding both her armpits)… You can come run. I have nothing left to say. Good job!
