The 46th Annual American Music Awards 2018 (aka AMAs 2018, AMA 2018) was a night full of great performances and some political messages delivered onstage.
Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift (age 28), who won Artist of the Year, encouraged everyone to vote when she said, “It’s the midterm elections on November 6. Get out and vote.”
American comedian and actor Billy Eichner, along with co-presenter Kathryn Hahn, went off script and asked people to vote. Kathryn seconded him by saying, “Vote, Vote, Vote!”
Meanwhile, AMA host Tracee Ellis Rose only had to read her T-shirt which says “I am a voter” to convey the same message.
Political talks aside, the American Music Awards was a night that belonged to the winners.
The American Music Awards 2018 was held at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles, California on October 9, 2018.
Artists who won the most awards were Taylor Swift and Cuban-American singer-songwriter Camila Cabello (age 21), with 4 awards each.
Taylor Swift now holds the record for most wins by a female artist, with a total of 22 AMAs, surpassing the 21 total lifetime wins of the late Whitney Houston.
Rapper and TV personality Cardi B (age 25) and rapper-singer Drake (age 31) got the most nominations, with each of them getting 8 nominations. Cardi B won 3 awards but Drake failed to win any.
